2019 Rogers Scholar and Taylor County High School student Grayson Wise is helping students at Cardinal Academy realize the value of good reading skills. She organized a community service project, “Make Reading Great Again,” to reinforce the importance of developing strong reading skills and foster a love for reading. During the previous school year, Wise visited Cardinal Academy to help students improve their reading skills and cultivate lifetime reading habits. “This project meant a lot to me to help children and help share something that I’m so passionate about,” Wise said. “Reading is very important to me, and I know it’s very important in education and for the future of these children.” An excited second-grade Taylor County student couldn’t wait to get started reading. “She helped me to know how reading will change my life. I love it now!” Each graduate of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program is required to complete a community service project.
